Possessives and Contractions: Whose and Who's

Whose and who’s sound alike but are spelled differently and have different meanings. Whose shows possession or ownership, whereas who’s is a contraction of “who is” or “who has.”

A contraction is a shortened word made by joining two words such as who is ; who’s, who has ; who’s, and could not ; couldn’t. The apostrophe takes the place of the missing letter(s).
