Simple Predicate: Part 4
The complete predicate in each of the following sentences has been highlighted. Click on the simple predicate.
The simple predicate is never a part of the prepositional phrase. In identifying the simple predicate, be sure to identify the prepositional phrases and eliminate them. For example, the underlined prepositional phrase in "The girl behind the tree ran toward me." is not a part of the simple predicate.
Sample: Oxygen is a waste product of photosynthesis.
  1. The process by which green plants and certain other organisms transform light into chemical energy is called photosynthesis .
  2. The green pigment in leaves is called chlorophyll .
